Me & My work
my name is Jasmine Bevan and I am a multi medium artist who focuses on installation work and set design. My work originally started with looking at mural work and the way in which you could paint a space to make it stand out and draw a viewer in. This then expanded to the way in which we could paint our homes and made me question why we as people live in a black and white world and don't explore colour or expression more within our homes. This led me to explore all aspects of the home from carpeting to ceramics all the way to the fabrics we choice to display in our homes. However, my art isn't just looking at the home it's the way we feel in these spaces, the way in which we react to colour and expression, I believe we should surround ourselves with positivity and look at what makes us happy and why. A lot of viewers say my work reminds them of childhood and memories without worry, being in my installation allows them to escape from their adult worries and problems and brings them back to a place of innocence. Art should be an escape from worry, politics and negative emotion it should allow you to escape and forget all negativity and this is the goal within my work to present a positive space with the deepest meanings and worries we have but masked in the happiest moments in our life.
A Letter from me to us:
Dear World,
My installation is an opening to a new world where those with an open mind are the ones who truly understand it. Embracing the world I am creating can bring people into a state of play and allow an audience to escape and bring them back to a world of innocence not polluted with the issues and worries of the world today or adulthood. We are allowed for our inner child to come out, allowed for us to see a world of colour where objects are bought to life and all emotions are allowed in a space with no judgement... just me , you and the world I created. However, cracks show through, a bright mural of a city showing what the world could be if we didn't destroy it, games we played in childhood being played on us as if we are pieces of a game discarded once's used and the emotions we can't express because we have to put a mask on us as well as the environments we try to surround ourselves in. My space, unlike most environments, is a protection from that, however, we can't prevent that; so let's admire for twenty or so minutes and forget our issues and admire what the home could look like in a world only produced out of art. A world where everything is beautiful, bright and happy a world in which we can be ourselves and not worry about judgement from the outside.
I convey the every day from a new lens showing objects and household items in a way that makes them feel human and as if they have their own emotions making us want to take care of them and not leave them in the installation because they aren't just pieces of art or household items they are Animism. They aren't living but carry a past, present and future and show emotion, the work of art has produced a soul in the installation and you can feel it all around us. Like people they carry a job and are functional whether they carry your flowers or you sip coffee out of them they carry a purpose like me and you. Although, this is art at the end of the day people fear touching and interacting with it, therefore, the purpose won't be met. A lot of us don't pursue our purpose in life but it's up to us to continue otherwise.
Thank you for making the ordinary unordinary,
Lots of Love,
Jasmine
